Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Inada, a Japanese internment camp survivor and prominent Japanese-American poet, performs select poems with student readers.  12-1 p.m., Friday April 18, Chemeketa Community College Building 2/Multicultural Center (free)

Lawson Inada reads with special musical guest at this Salem poetry night spot. Music opens at 7 p.m., with poetry and music beginning at 7:30. Grab a snack or a drink and enjoy inventive poetry performed live in a creative setting. (free)

Community Slam Event: April 19, 7:30 p.m.

Open mic, invited guests, musicians and slam poets perform.  Host Miguel-Loredo Reyes brings out the noise in the Chemeketa Auditorium.
